Pass Chorale Banning Centennial Concert

The Pass Chorale, a community chorus serving the Pass area, will present a musical tribute to the 100th birthday of the City of Banning. The Centennial is being celebrated during 2013 with many special events.

The concert features a major work by a contemporary southern California composer, Lux Aeterna (Eternal Light) by Morten Lauridsen. Dr. Lauridsen graduated from USC and was awarded National Medal for the Arts in 2007.

The program salutes important events in the history of the Pass area, including songs of the first people, the Spanish early Californian, and the immigrants from all over the world.

A special treat will be Stagecoach Music by Bill Bell and his fiddle. Phineas Banning was a stagecoach driver and ran a stagecoach line. We hear that Phineas may be present at the concert too!

Bill Bell also discovered and arranged the Song of Banning, written by Jimmy Francis in 1941. It was the winning song in a contest. The Chorale will perform this song as a special birthday tribute.

The concert ends with patriotic music familiar to all Americans. Please join us for this very special concert!
