Fall Rehearsals

The summer Pass Chorale has made great progress (mostly without an accompanist). We have been studying the first two movements of the Bach Christmas Oratorio - and learning how to pronounce the German words. We have also been learning several Christmas anthems, including one of the Brahams Songs of Mary, a Scottish carol, Balloo Lammy, and  Huron Indian carol. There is still time to join us if you are interested in singing. Its been fun, during our heat waves, singing about "Caroling through the snow," one of the Alfred Burt carols.

We rehearse in the Gathering Hall at Dorothy Ramon Learning Center, 127 N. San Gorgonio in Banning. Come by and try us out Tuesday evenings, 7 - 8:30 pm. For further info call Director Ernest, 951-849-4676.

Pass Chorale Needs New Singers! And an Accompanist!

The Pass Chorale, a community chorus serving the Pass area and surrounding communities, has begun rehearsals for their second major concert of the year, the Celebration of Christmas. The Chorale is inviting interested singers to come to a rehearsal and try us out!

The major work for Christmas is part of the Christmas Oratorio by Bach. This beautiful baroque music is a joy for singers and the orchestra as well. In addition there are several Christmas anthems including Caroling, Caroling by Al Burt, a Huron Carol with words translated from the original Huron language, a Scottish carol for chorus and oboe that mimics the sound of the bagpipe, a shape-note version of Hark the Herald Angels sing, and more!

We also need an accompanist, since Joan Frost, our wonderful accompanist for the last 5 years, retired. Interested singers and pianists can call or email director Ernest Siva for more information (951-849-4676, siva@dishmail.net).

Thank you Joan Frost

Our wonderful accompanist for the last 5 years has retired to be able to do more traveling and be closer to family. It is an amazing commitment to be at rehearsals every week, extra rehearsals at performance times,  and at each performance. We appreciate this dedication to the Pass Chorale. She helped us so much, we couldn't have learned our parts or our entrances without her. She was so generous with her time, working extra time with soloists. We appreciate all she did for the chorale! Thank you Joan!

We now need another accompanist. If there's anyone out there who wants to work with singers, please contact director, Ernest. 951-849-4676.

Pass Chorale Rehearsals to Begin-New Singers Wanted

The Pass Chorale will begin summer rehearsals on Tuesday, June 19. We'll begin rehearsing music for our Christmas Concert. We would like to invite singers to consider joining the Chorale. We have lots of fun learning our music. There is something special about learning a major great work by a great composer. We live with this music for several months, by the time we perform it, it is very familiar to us. We learn so much studying this music in depth. We will begin with shorter Christmas anthems. Its a great way to stay cool during the hot summer.

We meet at San Manuel Gathering Hall at Dorothy Ramon Learning Center, 127 N. San Gorgonio Ave. in Banning.

Call or email director Ernest Siva for further information - 951-849-4676, siva@dishmail.net.

Pass Chorale Spring Concert - May 20

The annual Spring Concert of the Pass Chorale community chorus and orchestra will feature opera composer, Giacomo Puccini. But they won’t be presenting an opera. Instead, they will present the Messa di Gloria, a mass for chorus, tenor and baritone soloists, and orchestra that Puccini wrote as a school assignment at the age of 18. It may be a mass, but it is still Puccini. There are many foretastes of the grand opera themes that would characterize his later work.

Soloists are Jonathan Frias and Rohnert Pasqual, tenors, and Ulises Espinoza, baritone. All are from the voice and opera programs at California State University, San Bernardino. Stacy Fraser, head of the opera program, may even sing a Puccini aria.

This mass is an amazing and exciting composition and not often performed because it requires a fairly large orchestra. The Pass Chorale will take it on, but there may be more in the orchestra than in the chorus!

The second part of the program will be songs of America. A salute to America’s first people includes a Serrano Lullaby. A Festival of Freedom by Emily Crocker and Paul Lavender salutes the immigrants and features several of our folk songs. And any Americana program must include the music of George M. Cohan!

It promises to be a great program, come celebrate Puccini and America with us!

The concert will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2012, 2:30 pm at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1320 W. Williams St. in Banning. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors.

Lionheart at 4th Sunday Concert - April 22

Lionheart, a group led by Giselle Lauterbach, oboe player who has performed in several Pass Chorale concerts, will give a concert on Sunday, April 22, 3:00pm at Dorothy Ramon Learning Center's San Manuel Gathering Hall. The concert falls on Earth Day and will feature celtic and other music. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. Proceeds help to support the work of the Learning Center.

The Gathering Hall is located at 127 N. San Gorgonio Avenue in Banning.

Pass Chorale Resumes Rehearsals

The Pass Chorale resumes rehearsals at 7 pm on Tuesday, January 17, 2012. We'll begin work on Puccini's Messa di Gloria. This is an amazing work that Puccini wrote when he was 17 or 18. It has very beautiful choruses, with tenor and baritone solos. You can almost hear some of his future opera melodies. It is a seldom performed works, but the Pass Chorale has performed it before.

Please join us, we are again rehearsing in the Dorothy Ramon Learning Center's San Manuel Gathering Hall, 127 N. San Gorgonio Ave., Banning.
